Three Tips to Make the Most of Your Macular Degeneration Magnifiers May 17, 2023 |
Hello Three Tips to Make the Most of Your Macular Degeneration MagnifiersMagnifiers are truly one of the best vision aids for those with macular degeneration. Often I am asked "what is the best magnifier for those with macular degeneration?" 1. Length of Time Is magnification needed for short spot check to read a label on a pill bottle or for a longer period of time to enjoy a new novel. A small pocket magnifier is great to keep in your pocket for a quick spot read while a dome magnifier or a magnifying floor lamp will reduce strain on your eyes so you can read for a longer period of time. 2. Handheld or Hands Free Would you like to perform a hobby that requires your magnifier to be hands free so that you can sew, paint, or perform wood work? Opt for a clamp on magnifier or a magnifying desk lamp. 3. With or Without Lights Those with macular degeneration not only have the need for magnification to maximize their vision, their vision will also benefit from more light. With improved lighting the need for magnification is reduced. Which means the better the lighting, the less magnifying power is needed which then means the larger the viewing area.
